Orange is the New Black Is Getting An Inmate Based on Martha Stewart

Latest

So many things happened at the Time 100 Gala, including the spilling of a juicy detail regarding the upcoming season of Orange is the New Black. Jenji Kohan, the show’s creator, said there will be a Martha Stewart-inspired character introduced as one of Litchfield’s new inmates.

According to Time, Kohan didn’t give any clues as to who would be portraying the faux-Martha or if she would be teaching Piper and Co. some prison-friendly crafting tricks. She did confirm that the character would be Southern, a far cry from Martha’s Jersey girl roots. In the memoir that the series is based on, Piper Kerman described how M. Diddy (Martha’s nickname in the clink) came close to serving the sentence she received for insider trading at the same Danbury lockup where Kerman was. Stewart ended up doing her time at a prison in West Virginia instead.

Upon hearing the news of being an OITNB muse, the Queen of Crafts only had one thing to say:

“I’ll look at it.”

Orange is the New Black returns to Netflix on June 12.
