If you haven’t seen her yet, you’ll see her soon: new Weight Watchers spokeswoman Oprah Winfrey is coming to a television near you to explain how weight loss is a journey interspersed between slow-mo videos of her looking miserable whilst running.
“Nothing you’ve ever been through is wasted. So every time I tried and failed, every time I tried again, and every time I tried again, has brought me to this most powerful moment to say, if not now, when?” Oprah says somewhat inscrutably, though she’s clearly referencing her well-documented struggle with her weight.
While the Weight Watchers ad is not on the U.S. Weight Watchers YouTube channel, the full version has been uploaded to the company’s U.K. channel—it apparently debuted on Christmas Eve, right in time for the post-holiday New Year’s resolutions crowd to sign up for Weight Watcher’s new-and-improved program. The app has had some glitches in its roll-out, however, and is competing with a crowded market of other products designed to help you live your best life.
Oprah is the perfect press system to combat that; as Us Weekly miraculously proclaimed, the commercial had “Twitter in tears.”
If only tears translated into sales, we’d have something!
