News Anchor Rob Morrison Arrested for Allegedly Choking Wife

Latest

Rob Morrison, the anchor for WCBS-TV’s This Morning and News at Noon, is currently in custody for allegedly choking his wife Ashley Morrison, who’s an anchor on CBS’ MoneyWatch. Ugh.

According to the AP:

Officers received a call early Sunday morning from WCBS-TV anchor Rob Morrison’s mother-in-law about what was going on at the couple’s home in Darien, police said. Morrison had been belligerent toward his wife, CBS financial news anchor Ashley Morrison, throughout the night and ended up with his hands wrapped around her neck, leaving red marks, they said.
The arresting officers said they heard Rob Morrison threaten to do his wife more harm while they were processing him. They said his wife didn’t seek medical attention.

In a statement the two released together via Rob Morrison’s Twitter, the couple’s lawyer says the allegations have been “greatly exaggerated”, and calls the choking an “unfortunate incident.” OK.

In a case like this — where one spouse was choked by the other — wouldn’t they have separate lawyers? What’s going on here? Abusive relationships are scary in that it’s often hard to parse what’s really happening because of the dangerous dynamics. Let’s hope Ashley Morrison is getting the help and support she no doubt desperately needs during this time.

Rob Morrison posted the $100,000 bond and is due in court today on charges of strangulation, threatening, and disorderly conduct.
