Mommy Blogger Accused of Injecting 9-Year-Old Daughter With Urine

A well-known Australian mommy blogger has been charged with deliberately putting her daughter’s health in danger by injecting her with urine.

According to ABC News, the child had been born with a genetic illness which required frequent hospital visits. The mother, whose name has been withheld, used her blog to gain support from readers and charities. In March, doctors were concerned when they discovered a mixture of yeast and fungus growing in one of the daughter’s tubes in her venous line, suggesting contamination via urine. The child also had a type of rash found to be consistent with laxative abuse. Syringes, urine samples and laxatives were alleged to be found in the woman’s purse.

Munchausen’s syndrome by proxy is being suggested as possible reason for the blogger’s actions, according to 7:30. In April, a Kentucky mommy blogger named Lacey Spears was sentenced to 20 years to life in prison for poisoning her 5-year-old son. Spears had administered salt into her child’s feeding tube which caused his death. She was believed to have suffered from Postpartum Depression and Munchausen Syndrome by proxy, though Spears’s lawyers did not use the syndrome as defense in her trial.

The woman’s case has been adjourned until December 2. Since being removed from her mother’s care, the child’s condition has improved.
