Model Lara Stone Does Not Like Working With Lady Photographers

“They seem to never be able to make up their minds about what they want to do – with the exception of Inez [van Lamsweerde] because she always knows what she’s doing,” Stone told Marc Jacobs in Interview.

Dutch photographer Inez van Lamsweerde, it is worth adding, works in a team with Vinoodh Matadin.

Stone continued, “But so many times it’s like, ‘Oh, let’s try this’ and ‘Let’s try that’ and ‘Let’s do this’ and ‘Let’s do that.’ It’s like, ‘For f—k’s sake, woman!'”

Having been on the scene for over a decade and enjoyed It Girl status for the last few years, Stone has worked with just about all of the best-known fashion photographers, nearly all of whom are men, including Mario Testino, Steven Meisel, Patrick Demarchelier (as seen above in a Vogue shot), and Terry Richardson.

But she’s also worked with plenty of (lesser-known) female photographers, such as Emma Summerton (for Jaeger, seen above), Camilla Akrans (for Eres, seen below), Katja Rahlwes, Vanina Sorrenti, Sophie Delaporte, Anna Bauer, and Carmen Kemmink. The top photo is from a shoot she did with Nan Goldin for Vogue Paris. Wonder how they would respond to Stone’s exasperation.

The trope that women are indecisive leaders is a familiar one. And any female fashion photographer is a break from the traditional troika of model-stylist-photographer, in which the photographer might be the only straight man on set. Oh, to be a fly on the wall for Stone’s next shoot with a woman photographer. If it happens. Unfortunately, at this point, she could never pose for a woman again and her career wouldn’t suffer a whit.
