Mizzou Rejects Resignation From Prof Who Encouraged His Students to Come to Class Despite Threats

Latest

On Wednesday, Dale Brigham, a professor at University of Missouri, offered his resignation after shrugging off student safety fears in an email that went viral online.

However, hours later, Mizzou rejected his resignation. The university hasn’t elaborated on this decision, according to NBC News.

On Tuesday, a Yik Yak user threatened to “shoot every black person I see” at Mizzou. In response, many minority students began taking precautions and emailing professors to reschedule tests administered on campus. Brigham was one of the professors emailed, but, initially, he encouraged his students to come in anyway, saying, via KOMU:

“If you give into bullies, they win. The only way bullies are defeated is by standing up to them. If we cancel the exam, they win; if we go through with it, they lose.”
