Mitt Romney Delivers Useless Blow to Rick Santorum in Illinois

Mitt Romney has been projected to win the Illinois primary tonight by an impressive margin. This was expected, but nevertheless, Romney's pride and joy circuits are probably blowing out as we speak. Of course, Santorum will continue his quixotic quest for the presidency undaunted. Why would he do such a thing—other than the fact that he doesn't live in the same reality that we do and is totally winning on his own special planet? Well, as John Heileman posited this morning, he's in it to stop Romney from getting the delegates he needs in time for the convention. Rickles knows he can't win, but he can distract and delay Romney for long enough that this could end in a brokered convention, where Santo-Rumpelstiltskin will swoop in and somehow magically grab the nomination from Mittens' mitts. Keep dreamin', bud. (Also, get in line behind Sarah Palin.) Meanwhile, on the moon, Newt Gingrich continues his extremely sad book tour campaign.

Santorum just finished speaking and they blared Martina McBride's "Independence Day". I know that Republican presidential candidates have a history of misusing songs after their stump speeches, but Good Lord, how do you listen to that song and not realize it's a rather striking song from the point of view of a little girl whose mother kills her abusive husband and sets the house on fire?
