Shirley Phelps-Roper, a member of that hateful conclave of Jesus-crazed humanity known as the Westboro Baptist Church, tweeted less than a day after the Sandy Hook Elementary shooting that she and her Book of Revelation reading group "will picket Sandy Hook Elementary School to sing praise to God for the glory of his work in executing his judgment." Whereupon most reasonable Twitter users threw up pure bile, ground their teeth, gripped their chair arms furiously, and wondered why the hell believing in a Jewish proto-hippie with long, lustrous hair tends to turn some people into irredeemable assholes.
An unlikely protagonist (one well-versed in the fine art of troll combat) quickly emerged with promises to prevent the Westboro Church from forming a picket line — Redditors from all corners of the internet pledged their bodies to a makeshift human blockade that will (hopefully) keep the Church away from Sandy Hook Elementary. Hopefully, the wall of counter demonstrators will keep the, ahem, distasteful individuals associated with the Westboro Baptist Church from turning the shooting into an opportunity to spread the word about a (probably) spurious book in the Bible.
