Meet Michael Che, the New Daily Show Correspondent

Latest

The Daily Show may’ve lost John Oliver to HBO, where he can curse all he wants, but there’s a new correspondent on deck, Michael Che.

A New York native, Che is a Saturday Night Live writer who will arrive on Jon Stewart’s faux news set in June and hang out with correspondents like Aasif Mandvi, Samantha Bee and Jessica Williams. Like Oliver, Che can write his own bits as well as perform them and history has shown that once you reach The Daily Show, you might get your own show! Just look at Oliver, Stephen Colbert or even Steve Carell whose nice guy personality — except for The Way Way Back, where he played a very believable dick — has taken over Hollywood.

As for Che, Rolling Stone named him one of the funniest people in 2013, and he’s proved he can do niche and mainstream comedy through his appearance on The Late Show with David Letterman.

The comedic writer was also outspoken during the SNL debate surrounding their dearth of minority cast members.

Elsewhere, Che worked on VH1’s Best Week Ever skit series, like the one below featuring Hanson. Here’s to the wild future of late night television, from Colbert heading to Letterman and others actors swapping shows, no cast is safe.
