Man Jumps Barrier & Terrifies Today Show Anchors

This morning on Today, while Meredith Vieira, Al Roker and Willie Geist were outside on the plaza, a man disrupted the show by trying to jump the barriers holding the crowd back and yelling out something like "God's gift to music!" Geist was describing a clip of video at the time, so the cameras didn't catch what was happening, but the audio is frightening. You can hear Vieira shout, "Oh, Jesus!" and then the sounds of a scuffle. Roker says, "Oh, dear!" Apparently NBC security and NYPD took the dude down. We thought heard the word "gun" — scary! But we're wont to freak out like that. Anyhow: Everyone is fine, and you can continue to get your "news" watered-down and cheerful as ever.

Frankly, I think it's kind of impressive we haven't had barrier jumpers before. I mean... there is literally a sport based around jumping those things over and over. It's not hard. Kind of reminds me of that episode of The Simpsons where Lisa and Homer sneak into a museum after hours and Homer wants a closer look at something and Lisa goes "No dad! We can't touch it. It's behind a velvet rope... a velvet rope!"
