Man Arrested in Connection With Disappearance of Rosie O'Donnell's Daughter

Latest

On Monday, Rosie O’Donnell tweeted that her 17-year-old daughter Chelsea was missing. By Tuesday, Chelsea had been located in the New Jersey home of 25-year-old Steven Sheerer. When Chelsea was found, ABC reported:

Chelsea O’Donnell, who was described by police as unharmed and lucid, told officers when they arrived that her preference was to stay with Sheerer, who lives with his mother, but police took the teen back home. Sheerer, whom she apparently met on Tinder, does not face any charges at this time.

But that has changed. TMZ reports that last night, Ocean County, New Jersey prosecutors arrested Sheerer and charged him with “3rd degree endangering the welfare of a child and 3rd degree distribution of obscenity to a minor.” Prosecutors made the arrest after O’Donnell gave police permission to search her daughter’s cell phone. According to Ocean County Prosecutor Joseph Coronato, they found evidence of “inappropriate communications” between Sheerer and Chelsea (referred to as “the minor” by Coronato).

According to a statement from O’Donnell, Chelsea “lives with mental illness” and had recently “stopped taking her medicine.”
