Lolo Jones Joins U.S. Bobsled Team, Will Get Some Kind of Olympic Medal If It Kills Her

Latest

Champion hurdler and athlete that you totally love/hate/are neutral about Lolo Jones could be headed back to the Olympic Games sooner than we think. While Jones was planning to return to the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Summer Olympics for track, she has recently become one of the 24 athletes given a place on the U.S. bobsled team, opening her up to the possibility of competing at the 2014 winter games in Sochi, Russia.

Bringing in track stars is a bit of a tradition in the bobsled world, so it should come as no surprise that U.S. women’s bobsled coach Todd Hays invited Jones, alongside two other Olympic track veterans, to compete at this month’s bobsled push championships. Hays reasons that the presence of such athletes contributes to the strength and speed of the team, as well as inspires team morale. Uh, Hays? Have you witnessed the nastiness that Jones unwittingly brings out in her teammates? It’s about as far away from team morale as you can get, though who knows? Maybe a colder environment will make for warmer team relations.
