Missouri Lieutenant Governor Peter Kinder just released a statement calling for a grand jury in the Daisy Coleman case. “[F]acts revealed in exhaustive media reports, including the 4,000-word piece in the Kansas City Star, raise all kinds of questions that it is now clear won’t be put to rest."

I really, really like how House Speaker Jones specified which statute allows the attorney general to intervene in this case.

I am, however, sad that part of Kinder's quote for the need for a grand jury was that it could taint the reputation of the state of Missouri.

First of all, the need for the grand jury is because of the CRIME committed with the conveniently dropped charges. It's an issue of justice, not pr.

Secondly, as far as I can gather being a long-time resident of Missouri, our biggest state industries are meth, puppy mills, and racism. Not much use in worrying about tainting the reputation of the state.

On the upside - St. Louis has only had 88 murders so far this year! Woohoo! 9 less than last year at this time!
