In two nearly identical statements released at 5:45 p.m. Sunday afternoon, former One Direction member Liam Payne and former Cheryl Cole Cheryl announced their frequently drama-filled relationship had come to an end after three years and one baby named Bear.
Wrote Cheryl (she dropped her surname four years ago):
We are sad to announce that we are going our separate ways. It’s been a tough decision for us to make. We still have so much love for each other as a family. Bear is our world and we ask that you respect his privacy as we navigate our way through this together.
Wrote Payne:

I’m personally relieved to watch this relationship come to an end—not because I hate love, but because I was sick of watching them release statement after statement denying anything was even remotely wrong. Oh, ALSO because it will never not be deeply uncomfortable that Cheryl met Liam when he was just 14!
