Lena Dunham Will Write For Archie Comics

Latest

Fans of Girls and fans of Archie comics unite and rejoice—Lena Dunham is slated to write a four-part story for the classic comic series.

The series won’t hit the stands until 2015, promises to be a “a classic Archie story with a definitely unique, Lena spin,” via Rolling Stone:

According to Comic Book Resources, the Girls star/writer/creator was
recruited by newly hired Chief Creative Officer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa
after Dunham publicly expressed admiration for the comic series in a
Q&A with J.J. Abrams and novelist Doug Dorst last November in New
York City.
“We sent her a box of tons of Archie books,” Aguirre-Sacasa
says. “She devoured them all, and maybe a week or two later came back
with her pitch.” While the CCO is reluctant to share any plot specifics
for the unnamed episode, he notes that the 2015 comic series will be
“set in the Archie continuity” and is also “very contemporary.”

I’m psyched about this? There exists among my cherished possession my mother is “storing” for me several giant boxes of well-read, much-loved Archie comics book. My entire pre-teen years revolved around those books, and more importantly, getting my mother to shell out the $1.50 to buy them at the grocery store. So anything that gets people excited about the comics and keeps the series going in my opinion is great.

Now, let’s all post our best guesses for what the plot will be—Archie is a struggling singer/songwriter living in Brooklyn and working as a waiter? Too easy? Yeah, way too easy.
