Leah Remini gave a gripping interview on 20/20 Friday night in which she discussed her 30-plus years of experience as a member of the Church of Scientology. One interesting tidbit had to do with Jennifer Lopez and the wedding of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes. Remini claims the church tried to recruit her pal, J-Lo.

The church asked Remini to invite Lopez and her then-husband Marc Anthony to the 2006 nuptials, reports People. She claims they made Remini and Lopez travel in different vehicles and sit at different tables. “They were always trying to extract me,” she said Remini. “I could only assume because they wanted to make Jennifer a Scientologist and maybe I was barring that road for them.”

Remini also said other Scientologists began complaining about her behavior at the wedding, with accusations that the actress was acting loud and rude. One complaint came from Holmes herself. In something called a “Knowledge Report,” Holmes wrote, “I was dismayed at the behavior of Leah Remini during the events leading up to our wedding... At the wedding, the behavior as a guest, a friend ... was very upsetting.” Holmes recently issued an apology to Remini with a statement to 20/20 that said,“I regret having upset Leah in the past and wish her only the best in the future.”

Remini also noted Cruise’s odd choice of serenade to his new bride. He sang “You’ve Lost That Loving Feeling” which was a reference to his own scene in Top Gun. “We’re like, ‘that’s an interesting song to sing to your bride,”said Remini, who finally left Scientology in 2013. Her memoir, Troublemaker: Surviving Hollywood and Scientology, is out on November 3.

Thanks for the clip! I can’t wait to see the entire interview. I’m simultaneously fascinated and disgusted by these people...they have access to the exact same media and internet we all do and they still believe this shit?
