Justin Bieber Would Like to Be 1. Your Boyfriend and 2. Justin Timberlake

Justin Bieber's new video, "Boyfriend," dropped last night, and there's something different about The Beebs. He's all growed up! Compare this clip to his mega-hit, "Baby". Sweepy bangs? Gone. No purple hoodie. Bowling alleys are for kids! It's all about cars on rooftops. JB has an upswept 'do and a deeper voice, which he uses to whisper stuff like, "I've got money in my hands that I'd really like to blow… on you. Chilling by the fire while we eating fondue." Justin knows how much you like cheese.

This new, more mature Bieber actually had an edgier video in the works. It was shot in a blue light, JB was fondled by ladies, and the look was more stylized, conceptual. As Becky Bain writes at Idolator, "Though neither Bieber nor MTV went into detail about why the original concept and director were changed at the last minute, we wouldn't be surprised if it were due to the original scenes being bit too sophisticated and adult for Bieber's pre-teen audience." (You can still see a little bit of the other video in the official video, in the beginning.) Bieber's journey from child star to adult heartthrob is a balancing act, one that artists like Britney, Michael Jackson and, yes, Justin Timberlake have had to face. Poor JB: He's not a boy, not yet a man.

Speaking of Timberlake: The folks at Vulture think the "Boyfriend" video looks almost exactly like NSync's clip for "Girlfriend". And it does. Was that Bieber's idea, or someone else's?

"I did pick out those swaggy gold shoes," he told MTV. "They spray-painted them gold. That's what I'm going to do: I'm gonna start wearing gold shoes all the time."

I'm Ron Burgundy?

I do not get how people are buying into this song.

The lyrics are poor for even pop music standards. The beat is so canned and cliched "sexy" and Beiber trying to sound all seductive sounds awkward as hell, and looks even more awkward in that video. That kid really isn't dripping with sexuality and looks kind of afraid touching those video girls.
