Jon Stewart's Post-9/11 Daily Show Was Tearful, Hopeful & Amazing

The terrorist attacks of 13 years ago today ground the lives of millions to a shocked halt, and the first episode of The Daily Show to air after the attacks today serves as a reminder of just how emotionally raw everything still felt in the aftermath.

The clip below comes from an episode that aired 9 days after the attacks on New York, Washington, and Pennsylvania. The entire 8-minute-long take is powerful, but this bit, about chaos versus order, darkness versus light, is especially resonant now.

They live in chaos. And chaos, it can’t sustain itself—it never could. It’s too easy and it’s too unsatisfying.
