Jon Stewart Is Not Impressed With Clinton's Campaign Announcement

Latest

Jon Stewart took on Hillary Clinton’s campaign announcement on Monday night’s episode of The Daily Show, and for those of us whose reaction was more “can’t wait for this Stouffer’s ad to end” than “can’t wait to see what this feminist hero will do next,” Stewart’s restrained barbs were very satisfying.

“This is boring as shit,” he said as the video played, comparing it to a “State Farm commercial gone viral,” and acknowledging that this marks a refreshing shift from her 2008 campaign strategy, “Shut Up I’m Talking.”

More interesting, though, were right-wing reactions to Clinton’s announcement. Stewart showed a clip of a slack-jawed Fox News pundit asking, without a hint of humor: “Do the American people really want another four, eight years of the Clintons and their weird marriage?”

The executive vice president of the NRA took a more melodramatic and grammatically confusing tack: “Hillary Rodham Clinton will bring a permanent darkness of deceit and despair forced upon the American people to endure.” Because…she’s a woman: “I have to tell ya–eight years of one demographically symbolic president is enough.”

Whoa. And there you have it, folks! The Republican party in a nutshell: “Let’s get a white man back into the White House.”
