The actor John Heard—best known for playing Macaulay Culkin’s father, Peter McAllister, in the Home Alone movies—was found dead in a Palo Alto, Calif. hotel on Friday night. He was 72.

The Palo Alto police department confirmed the news to People, with a spokesperson saying that,

“I can confirm that our officers responded with the Fire Department to a hotel in our city yesterday on a report of a person in need of medical aid,” The police spokesperson said. “The person was determined to be deceased. While still under investigation, the death is not considered suspicious at this time.”

TMZ adds that Heard had undergone minor back surgery Wednesday at nearby Stanford Medical Center, and was staying in the hotel during his recovery.

Police do not suspect foul play.

Heard had an active career in the ’80s and ’90s. When he wasn’t desperately trying to find Kevin in Home Alone, he was playing a crooked New Jersey police detective who gave information to James Gandolfini in The Sopranos. He also had roles as Tom Hanks’s nemesis in Big, Bette Midler’s husband in Beaches, as well as parts in C.H.U.D, Cat People, Gladiator and the first Sharknado.
