Matt Sandusky, the adopted son of super cool dad and former super cool Penn State football coach Jerry Sandusky, has filed to have his name changed, the Associated Press reports.

The man who will soon no longer be a Sandusky filed name change papers in Pennsylvania this week for himself, his wife and their four children. Originally, Matt was intended to be a character witness for Sandusky during the high profile trial, given that he'd stated that he had never been a victim of abuse under his adopted father (though Matt's birth mother said in an interview that she believed that Sandusky had changed her son). But after the jury went into deliberations, Matt released a statement through his attorneys stating that "he is a victim of Jerry Sandusky's abuse," and news leaked that he would be willing to testify against Sandusky.

In the meantime, Jerry Sandusky is still in jail and trying to appeal his sentencing.

I feel so sorry for the children of notorious criminals. It must be so difficult to get through life with what must seem like a glow-in-the-dark label stapled to your forehead. I went to school with a family whose father, when the kids ranged from 10-18, killed his wife (their mother) and tried to frame it as a car accident when she found out he was cheating on her. First they had to go through the trial and testify against the man they had grown up loving, and then they had to live in an area where everyone (as loving and supportive as they all tried to be) always knew their whole history.
