I think it's fucked up that so many are couching their disinterest/dislike in this safe pose of Girls being by entitled girls and about entitled girls. If you don't find it funny, fine. But why all the intellectualizing to justify it?
I think the truth of the matter is that Dunham has created a portrait of the American experience that some find unattractive and so are striving to distance themselves from.
And I find it shitty that Jezebel is playing both sides of the Girls argument so hard. One day you're saying we should all get HBO in a sign of sisterhood, then after its premiere you post the most cynical fucking review I've read. (Unlike this one, which made me guffaw throughout: [www.vulture.com])
I'm exhausted by all the Girls haters. I really enjoyed the show. I love that Dunham is presenting an unsentimental look at 20-somethings in New York, and found it insightful and funny. And I don't see why it's being dinged for not being everything to everyone.
