Into The Heart Of Right-Wing Darkness With The Holocaust Museum Shooter

The perpetrator of this afternoon's shooting at the Holocaust Museum has been identified as James von Brunn. Von Brunn reportedly remains in critical condition; his sole victim has died. We spent the afternoon inside von Brunn's very crazy rabbit hole.

Von Brunn is a white supremacist, an Anti-Semite, a Holocaust denier, a 9/11 Truther, an Obama-Birther, a Fed-hater, and — unsurprisingly — a Ron Paul supporter. He's also a PC user.

His website, Holy Western Empire, crashed this afternoon, and with it the first 6 chapters of his book described by Mark Fisher of the Washington Post thusly:

Von Brunn's online book, "Kill The Best Gentiles," is hundreds of pages of conspiracy theories that include Holocaust denial, the ancient hoax of the "Protocols of the Learned Elders of Zion," and wild webs of fantasy seeking to link the Federal Reserve Bank, the Illuminati, Sigmund Freud and Karl Marx in a grand, centuries-long story of Jewish plotting against white people.

Much of it appears to be reprinted here, and is exactly as fucked up, crazy and horrifying as Fisher makes it sound. A sample:

The "American myth" (created by JEWS) alleging our Founding Fathers intended that all races, from pygmy to Ainu, be invited to our shores, is based on Thomas Jefferson's words in the Declaration of Independence: "...all men are created equal." The meaning of this much quoted statement has been distorted by the ILLUMINATI which subjectively is re-writing history and wielding the "HOLOCAUST" like a battle-ax at the heads of those proclaiming genetic certainties: Men and races are NOT created equal. Jefferson's statement can be understood only in context of his Era. Our Founding Fathers were Aryans, men of good breeding who understood, empirically, the great differences existing between strains of horses; strains of live-stock; races of men; and between individuals: knowledge confirmed today by the natural sciences of Genetics, Eugenics, and Anthropology. Hitler, as American boobs are beginning to learn, was not all wrong.

It goes on, but you don't want to read it.

Von Brunn is also the apparent author of such literary gems as Hitler's Worst Mistake: He Didn't Gas The Jews and Christianity and the Holocaust which contains this quote:

"Christianity" destroyed Roman Civilization. The "Holocaust" Religion is destroying Western Civilization. The Aryan gene-pool dies, "unwept, unhonored and unsung."

In it, he also accuses St. Paul (Saul) of inventing Christianity to destroy the Roman Empire, which was where all the problems of the world apparently started.

By his own words, he was convicted of domestic terrorism nearly 30 years ago.

In 1981 Von Brunn attempted to place the treasonous Federal Reserve Board of Governors under legal, non-violent, citizens arrest. He was tried in a Washington, D.C. Superior Court; convicted by a Negro jury, Jew/Negro attorneys, and sentenced to prison for eleven years by a Jew judge. A Jew/Negro/White Court of Appeals denied his appeal. He served 6.5 years in federal prison.

Then, he reported used a handgun; today, he killed the security guard with a rifle.

Greg Sargent asks on his blog (as many others have) whether it's time to revisit the report on right-wing domestic terrorists that Fox News pundits found so inflammatory and got the Department of Homeland Security to pull. It said:

Right-wing extremism in the United States can be broadly divided into those groups, movements, and adherents that are primarily hate-oriented (based on hatred of particular religious, racial or ethnic groups), and those that are mainly antigovernment, rejecting federal authority in favor of state or local authority, or rejecting government authority entirely. It may include groups and individuals that are dedicated to a single issue, such as opposition to abortion or immigration.

With two such shootings in as many weeks, maybe the folks that reject the notion of "political correctness" (except when they feel like calling Latina judges racist or read paragraphs like these) ought to stop whining quite so much about being politically correct and thinking about the deaths of Americans.

Things like this are what make it so very, very hard to be a Jew in America. Very few gentiles have any kind of appreciation for what an American Jew goes through daily. There is the constant discussion of Israel, the refining and refining of our own Jewish views of our proverbial homeland, the pressure to be as "white" as everyone else, the pressure to not be a knee-jerk Israel supporter, the pressure to contextualize our history into American history, to be vigilent about the Holocaust but not TOO vigilant, to be proud of ourselves as a minority but also not too vocal about it because we're not an obvious minority, and there are other American minorities that "have it worse" than us.

And then these things happen to remind us that no matter how hard we try, no matter how "white" we act, no matter how assimilated we think we are, someone is still gunning for us. Literally.

Sometimes you want to be able to say something intelligent about it, and sometimes you want to put it in the context of larger history, but most of the time I suspect that us Jews just want our gentile neighbors and friends to hug us and tell us it's okay, and that one day things are bound to change, that they're committed to making them change.

And for such an innocent bystandaer to be the one to take the fall.. it's even worse. We all owe him a huge thanks, as he helped prevent what could have been an unspeakable tragedy.
