Iceland Elects World's First Openly Gay Prime Minister

Social Democrat Johanna Sigurdardottir, 66, who had been serving as the “caretaker Prime Minister” for the past few months, has officially been elected as Iceland’s Prime Minister, making her the world’s first openly gay leader.

“This is the first time that leftist parties will hold a majority,” the Prime Minister said of her win, “The people are calling for a change of ethics. That is why they have voted for us.” [BBC]
