Hillary Clinton had a particularly shitty holiday season: she suffered a concussion after fainting from dehydration caused by a stomach virus earlier this month and, last night, was hospitalized after doctors found a related blood clot in an unspecified place.
Poor Hil: she's said again and again that all she wants to do after she retires as secretary of state is work out and watch HGTV. (For a few months, until she feels rejuvenated and ready to fulfill our dreams by running for President in 2016. Right?) Philippe Reines, deputy assistant secretary of state, said she'll only stay at New York Presbyterian Hospital for the next 48 hours, so doctors can treat her with anticoagulants and make sure she's A-Ok. Still, the fallout from her health issues will likely complicate her relaxation plans.

Normally $19, you can save big on this richly-lathering face wash while supporting a brand that keeps the environment top of mind.
Hillary's concussion also forced her to take a rain check on testifying earlier this month before the House Foreign Affairs Committee on the attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, Libya, which obviously means her whole "health scare" was staged so she could shirk her duties. (Sorry, Glenn Beck stole my keyboard away from me for a second.)
She'll likely get better before we know it; according to CNN, it's unlikely the blood clot is on her brain, since she's being treated with anticoagulants which prevent clots from forming in the heart veins and arteries and aren't usually used for bleeding on the brain. According to the WSJ:
Anticoagulants are typically used to treat and prevent clots in blood vessels, including for a condition called deep vein thrombosis. This condition, which can result from prolonged bed rest and sometimes from airplane flights, involves formation of clots in leg veins. They can break away and travel to the lungs, causing what is called pulmonary embolism, a potentially dangerous lung problem.
It's also worth pointing out that Hillary is 65 and just spent more than 400 days traveling over nearly a million miles while secretary of state. (I'm significantly younger and basically catch a cold if I go out in the cold when my hair is wet.) This all seems very cautious and preventative; it's scary that she's in the hospital, but you don't have to freak out. Unless you're a conservative conspiracy theorist.
