  • Congressional lawmakers came to terms on the bailout package today, several hours before John McCain got done giving his Clinton Global Initiative speech and arrived on the Hill to rescue the American economy. [NY Times]
  • That doesn't mean he's going to be at the debate tomorrow, of course. There might be something else he could rescue for the good of the nation instead of sucking it up and debating Obama, he's sure. [NY Times]
  • Mississippi's Republican governor, Haley Barbour, says they're all systems go for a debate. Obama plans to have a townhall meeting without McCain if McCain is too much of a coward to debate him. [CNN, Huffington Post]

  • Meanwhile, Sarah Palin's interview with Katie Couric continued apace, with her repeating the ridiculousness about Russia being close enough to nuke Alaska and calling for a logistically impossible surge in Afghanistan "lead us to victory there as it has proven to have done in Iraq."   • and and Israeli production company both released films today to try to counteract polls that show the Jewish vote swinging for McCain. The latter group, though, calls it "The Great Schlep" and has Sarah Silverman, so they win. [Time, Huffington Post]

I am GIDDY for the VP debate. It'll be sweet, sweet nectar for my soul. But I shouldn't get my hopes up. The McCain camp might declare a moose problem that is threatening the security of Alaska, and they need Palin stat to go in and restore order.

And there's no way he could have made it on time. He had to talk to Couric to discuss how he's suspending his campaign because of the economy. What a maverick he is.
