What would the world be like without Chris Noth? Would your uncle still be threatening to vote Trump? Would Sex and the City have had so many extra seasons that by the time they made a movie the only thing left to do was have Charlotte crap her pants? Darren Star has described one of the billions of alternate SATC realities running parallel to our own.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Star comes in with a revelation that will force me to go back and look really hard at all my Mr. Big/Aidan fic:

I was thinking of Alec Baldwin for Big initially [in Sex and the City]. I don’t really watch Law & Order, but I met with Chris Noth and thought he was perfect. I remember the first table read, how good he was. I’m not saying that Chris was Mr. Big, but he brought a lot of his own persona to the role… We initially were thinking about Aidan Quinn for Aidan, but I think he wasn’t available. I loved John Corbett in Northern Exposure, and we were like, ‘Well, what’s John Corbett been up to?’ He just had the laconic, dudish vibe. But we kept ‘Aidan’ because we loved the name.

What can he say, he loves the name Aidan, because it’s slightly less boring than John. Little trivia, that was Mr. Big’s real name. Okay, here’s what I was picturing, but now imagine it with Alec Baldwin and Aidan Quinn playing the pivotal roles.

Mr. Big: So, the girls are at brunch.

Aidan: Let’s kiss.

Mr. Big: Haha, you’re such a Samantha.

Still works.
