Helen Thomas, one of the first female reporters to break out of the White House's "women's beat" (e.g. FLOTUS hair styles) and the first ever female member (later, president) of the White House Correspondent's Association has passed away at 92. Over the course of her career, she grilled nine US presidents in her typical no-punches-pulled style.
Before people go jumping on the "she was an anti-semite" bandwagon, here are her actual comments on Gaza, via wikipedia:
"Tell them to get the hell out of Palestine." and "Remember, these people are occupied and it's their land. It's not German, it's not Poland..." When asked where Israeli Jews should go, she replied they could "go home" to Poland or Germany or "America and everywhere else. Why push people out of there who have lived there for centuries?"
If I get into one more argument on FB from people claiming that she said Jews should go back to Germany and Poland, where they were killed (conveniently leaving off the "America and everywhere else" piece, I'm going to scream.
Just like criticizing Bush's policies and was not anti-American, criticizing Israeli's policies does not make someone anti-semitic.
I'll climb down off my soapbox now.
