Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo! (Wait, yes?)
Heidi Klum and the ever disapproving Tim Gunn have opted to leave Project Runway and partner with Amazon Studios for a “an untitled global fashion competition series,” according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Project Runway, which premiered on Bravo and then switched over to Lifetime (during a litigious sequence of events), is still set to return to Bravo for its 17th season. Klum, as the show’s host, and Gunn, as the godfather-like advisor to designer contestants, had worked on Project Runway for 16 seasons.
Klum said in a statement:
“After 16 incredible seasons, I am saying ‘Auf Wiedersehen’ to Project Runway, a show that I was honored to host and help create. I am incredibly proud of the show, and it will always have a special place in my heart. I am so appreciative of the dedicated fans, and most of all, I am grateful that we could shine a light on creativity and help launch so many talented designers’ careers. I’m most excited that my journey with my dear friend and colleague, Tim Gunn, is far from over. We will be partnering with Amazon for a new show, and we’re excited for everyone to see what we’re designing next!”
At least they’re not disappearing forever. THR reports that details on their new show are scarce, but that “Amazon says the series will make fashion accessible to a wide and global audience and offer a fresh take in the reality space while appealing to viewers who are entertained by competition, storytelling and authenticity.” They better MAKE IT WORK!!!
Tim Gunn said in a statement, “I am grateful to Project Runway for putting me on a path I never, in my wildest dreams, thought my career would take me!” Gunn added that he’s ready for his “next great ‘fashion’ adventure.”
UPDATE (11:50 a.m.)
Zac Posen is also not returning, thus making Project Runway a SHELL of itself. Via Deadline:
Designer Zac Posen says he also will not return as a judge to Project Runway. His announcement follows word earlier today that the show’s signature stars Heidi Klum and Tim Gunn are exiting the praised unscripted series to topline a new fashion reality series for Amazon Prime Video.
Oh cruel world...
