You probably never saw Michael K. Williams in anything before The Wire, but after his performance as Omar, it came as no surprise that he turned up on Boardwalk Empire as Chalky White. Andy Greenwald has unlocked HBO's plot to repeatedly cast little-known actors in similar roles, and he's produced a detailed chart to prove his point. Generally actors are concerned about typecasting, but there are worse things that can happen than to be cast as a beloved character.

Back in the good old days, they used to reuse actors *in the same show*.

You could have an actor appear in a role in season 1 as one character and in season 4 and 5 as a completely different character!
