The impending graduation of Glee's biggest stars and their constant talk of moving to New York led many to conclude that a Rachel/Kurt spinoff was in the works. However, Fox announced today that the show isn't happening. Fox entertainment president Kevin Reilly said:
"We're graduating the characters that are arcing toward graduation ... What's come out of it is [creator Ryan Murphy] has come up with a really cool idea. There will not be a Glee spinoff. But those characters will graduate and that's led to a really interesting idea that I think will give us something to dig into next season, and it [starts with] the spring batch of episodes. That's all I can say about it now."
Reilly added that Lea Michele will be on the show next season, but didn't comment on the fate of the other seniors. Though this idea isn't "really cool" at all, there's some speculation that the grads will magically get teaching degrees over the summer and join the faculty next season. Other possibilities include firing all the juniors and turning Glee into its own spinoff, or featuring the seniors in random dance numbers that take place in Lord Tubbington's dreams.
