Glamour has finally spoken out on the departure of its former Fashion Slave Ashley Baker, who said something about how Afros weren't suitable corporate hairstyles to a bunch of people who are used to people who actually, like, think before they say shit. According to the site, Ashley, who has been off her blogging and editing duties for six weeks, "has decided to leave Glamour to pursue freelance work." And with that the whole episode gets wiped clean from the historic record because no one wants to get blacklisted from the fearsome publisher of all the world's "important" magazines. Except that it's the internet, guys, and look right there, a Glamour commenter linked to the Jezebel website! [Glamour]
ashley is a very smart and nice person, but she just has a tendency to say things without thinking them through at the very moment. in college, she and some of her friends got in serious trouble for posting offensive remarks on some discussion board.
when a freshman expressed her pro-life views, they launched an attack against her; the final straw for the college was when they said that she would never be in a position to consider abortion since she was too unattractive to get laid anyway. again, a thoughtless offensive remark, but ashley regretted it afterwards as she does in this situation.
don't worry ashley! you're a great writer, and you'll find another gig soon. but, seriously, think before you speak!
