Frank Ocean and Brad Pitt are two peas in a pod. Los dos amigos. Bread and butter. Why else would Ocean project a video of Pitt talking on the phone as he performed at FYF Fest on Saturday?
I’m not fully clear on the details of what’s going on here. Who is Pitt talking to? And does he know he’s being broadcast to a sea of adoring Ocean fans, or is this like when you’re on the kiss cam at a ball game but don’t notice ‘cause you’re tweeting?
We already knew that Pitt loves Ocean, having said in an interview with GQ that listening to Ocean’s music helped him recover from his breakup with Angelina Jolie:
“I find this young man so special. Talk about getting to the raw truth,” he said at the time. “He’s painfully honest. He’s very, very special.” Not long after, Ocean wore a shirt featuring Pitt’s face during a performance in Manchester, England.
So yeah, there was already a precedent for these adorable displays of mutual appreciation, which was only furthered on Saturday at Exposition Park. Ocean chose the Jackson 5's Never Can Say Goodbye to serenade the actor, who was probably talking to his accountant or divorce attorney. Who knows, maybe Ocean picked that particular jam to encourage Pitt to hang up the phone and appreciate the damn performance.
For me, the most important thing I realized during this sweet moment is that even after all these years, Brad Pitt is still a total babe.
Happy birthday to Selena Gomez, who kicked off her 25th year with a party that began with her sitting on a table in a t-shirt at 8 a.m.
“Thank you for all of my bday love. I couldn’t be more blessed,” she captioned the photo. “A lot of you don’t realize how much you mean to me. I. Love. You. –think 25 is going to be epic. xo.”
The Weeknd was not in attendance, but only because he was performing in Paris.
Jared Leto wrote a tribute to his friend Chester Bennington in a heartwarming Instagram post on Saturday:
“When I think of Chester I remember his smile... His laughter, intelligence, kindness and talent.
That absolutely unforgettable voice that was at once - delicate, ferocious and always full of emotion.
Witnessing his life taught me a lot. Especially about commitment, about kindness, about hard work, about the pursuit and achievement of dreams and mostly, about love.
I know that both his family and his band were a massive source of inspiration and pride for him. It was clear to me that he was deeply grateful for both the people that surrounded him and the life that he had.
My heart goes out to his family, friends, band and fans.
A tragic loss of an absolute legend.
We will miss you.”
