I'm not a New Yorker, so correct me if I'm wrong, but if Carrie was a teenager (and thus first discovering New York) in the 1980's, wasn't the city kind of dangerous then? Wouldn't her guide to the Real New York involve doing a few lines of cocaine with a Patrick Bateman-type and then getting mugged at knifepoint on the subway?
