Female High School Student Kicked Out of Prom for Wearing Pants

Latest

Are we still living in the Mad Men era? It seems like it, when in 2014, someone can kick a female student out of prom for wearing pants.

This is what happened to Shafer Rupard, a student Cherryville High School in North Carolina. After walking into prom at the local country club, Rupard caught the notice of a chaperone:

Ms. Rupard had arrived to prom wearing red skinny jeans, and it appears that’s what caught the teacher’s ire. She told WBTV, “The teacher tapped me on the shoulder and said she had a problem with what I was wearing. I thought it was because of the hat or the leather jacket and I was like, ‘Well, I’ll take those off,’ and she was like no, ‘It’s the pants.'”

One has to wonder why the teacher was so offended by Rupard’s attire. Is it because no proper woman wears trousers to formal events? Is it because they were denim? Is it because, as the Mary Sue hilariously conjectures, “DUN DUN DUNNNNNN. Were the pants made of anthrax? Were they toxic pants?.”

If it’s because the pants somehow didn’t fit the dress code, Rupard’s mother points out that the assistance principal admitted that the school has no dress code for prom. If you look at the full picture of Rupard’s outfit, you’ll see that she’s wearing a snazzier version of the Canadian tuxedo, which shows that the offending teacher has poor taste for being so offended.
