Women hold up kitchen cooking implements as they take part in a rally in Jakarta on August 2, 2009 demanding the Indonesian government to protect overseas maids and migrant workers from abuse. Indonesia recently imposed a ban on sending maids to work in Malaysia after a 43-year-old Malaysian woman was charged with causing grievous bodily harm by beating her Indonesian maid and scalding her with boiling water. Malaysian officials said last month an average of 50 maid abuse cases were reported each year out of 300,000 Indonesian maids working in the neighbouring southeast Asian country.
