Okay, we don't really mean what we imply in that headline. But yesterday, we caught an episode of Tyra Banks' talk show that horrified us just as much (if not more) as it did the first time we saw it a few months ago. The subject: Women with incurable physical and/or medical conditions that keep them isolated and alone. First up was one very sad but also very courageous woman, Tammy, who suffers from TMAU, an odor that emanates from her body and keeps her a virtual prisoner inside her home. It breaks our hearts to have to write this, but the TMAU, Tammy explained, manifested itself in her vagina, a detail that touches on so many issues regarding female insecurities and personal hygiene that we didn't think we could write a coherent, straightforward post about it. But we couldn't ignore it either. So we came up with a solution: Post the clip itself, then follow that up with a discussion — replete with sorta offensive jokes (we're uncomfortable here, people!) — between Anna and a woman who knows from vaginas, Slut Machine (link NSFW).
In college this guy was cooking a fancy Italian dinner with anchovy paste, the smell went all the way down the hall. Another guy walked by the kitchen and said "damn, it smells like really bad vagina in here." I said, "come on, no vagina smells that bad." To which he said, "oh, I don't know...." and made gestures towards a girl sitting on the sofa.
It was a scarring experience for all of us.
