Era-Defining AP Correction: Robert Durst Is Not a Member of Limp Bizkit

Latest

In the greatest news correction since the Times had to be all “Actually Good Burger is only real in your hearts, America,” the AP has issued a statement clarifying that accused murderer Robert Durst is not actually the same person as accused Limp Bizkit member Fred Durst.

The original post, via Romenesko, went out Monday evening:

NEW ORLEANS (AP) – A Louisiana State Police trooper says millionaire Robert Durst has been booked on weapons charges in that state – on top of a first-degree murder charge lodged by Los Angeles authorities. Trooper Melissa Matey told the Associated Press that an arrest warrant was issued for the former Limp Bizkit frontman and he was rebooked in the Orleans Parish Jail on Monday under two new charges.

The correction went out this morning, and it is beautiful:

In the second item of the California 10th NewsMinute sent March 16 to users of the state broadcast wire, The Associated Press reported erroneously that Robert Durst is a member of a band. He is a real estate heir; Fred Durst is the former frontman of Limp Bizkit.

The mistake is understandable. Both men have ruined many lives across America; both are believable killers; both display a shattering ocular coldness that could stymie even the boldest reporter who durst to untangle these harrowing facts.

But Robert Durst is the Jinx one, okay—he’s in custody. Fred Durst, on the other hand, is getting ready to release a tied-up studio album called Stampede of the Disco Elephants, which sounds like absolute fire just from the title. A fan site called, naturally, The Armpit, reposted some lines from a Twitter Q&A he appears to have done about it:

when’s Stampede of the Disco Elephants coming out man?
SOTDE is in the final vocal stages and editing. It’s a damn monster.
new single soon?
new single soon. Yes.
Is Poop still something you might put out?
it may drop eventually
what is your favorite LB guitar riff?
hot dog. the truth. counterfeit.
which singer would you most want to punch and why?
myself. I punch me a lot. Sort of Fight Club thing going on here.

Sick. Good luck to both Dursts in this trying time.
