Correction: bikinis are welcome at the enclosed tourist sites at the Red Sea. But seriously, my experience has been that Egypt is pretty safe. The truth is, political unrest is mostly confined to specific locations. Just don't go to Tahrir and you'll be fine. And the prices are very cheap—there are almost seven Egyptian pounds in a US dollar these days. So everybody should come to Egypt!
