Dominique Ansel Creates Sundae in a Can For Some Reason

Cronut creator Dominique Ansel has apparently decided that what the dessert market was really craving was an ice cream sundae in a can.

He's calling it "Pop It! Ice Cream Sundae in a Can" because he watched a lot of commercials that aired during Saturday morning cartoons as a kid, and it's selling for $15 at a "Pop It!" ice cream truck today only in New York City. It's exactly what you're expecting: a pop-top tin can filled with root beer and stracciatella* ice creams, mascarpone semifreddo,** honey marshmallows, and miniature cherry meringues. One actually cool idea: they lined the inside of the can with chocolate to keep the sundae from touching the can itself. If you're wondering how it doesn't just melt, the whole thing is sealed and frozen.

I have to admit it's a cool idea from an engineering standpoint, but I'm not sure I want to pay $15 for canned ice cream. Also, that name. Good God, that name.

* Stracciatella ice cream is similar to chocolate chip ice cream, except the chips are replaced with extremely fine pieces of chocolate that give every bite of the stuff a very slight crunch.

** Think of this as sort of a dessert cheese mousse/whipped cream-like substance. Apparently people like it. I'm learning all sorts of stuff about non-American/fancy people desserts today.
