Did Roman Polanski Forget He's a Rapist?

The trades are reporting Friday that film director and convicted child rapist Roman Polanski was “blindsided” by his recent booting from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Both Polanski and Bill Cosby were expelled this week in an attempt by the Academy to “encourage ethical standards that require members to uphold the Academy’s values of respect for human dignity.”

My reaction to the booting was, “Took you long enough, but hey, progress is progress.”

Polanski’s reaction, per his attorney Harland Braun, was more of a 360-degree head spin, followed by a toxic steam shooting out of his ears, and an exclamation that I assume sounded something like, “Huzza wazza gruuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuhhhhhh???” I mean, “blindsided”? Really? Did he forget that he once plead guilty to unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor 40 years ago?

THR reports that “Polanski’s team was prepared to present academy officials a case for the Oscar winner to remain in the organization but they were never given the opportunity.” (Imagine that Keynote!) They plan on asking the Academy really really nicely for Polanski to be let back in. I foresee more disappointment.
