Delta, Diet Coke Apologize for Encouraging Passengers to Hit on Each Other

Latest

Apparently deciding that now’s the time to revive the libidinal atmosphere of the Jet Age, Delta and Diet Coke have been handing out napkins encouraging passengers to put the moves on one another by filling in their phone number and passing it over.

NBC News reported that the two companies have apologized for their ham-fisted attempt to engineer a meet-cute:

In a partnership with Diet Coke, the airline had been distributing drink napkins that encouraged passengers to slip their number to their “plane crush.”
“Be a little old school, write down your number and give it to your plane crush. you never know,” reads one side of the napkin. It goes on to read in big font next to a Diet Coke can, “because you’re on a plane full of interesting people and hey … you never know.”

Unsurprisingly, many people found this creepy, and voiced their objections on social media. NBC said that, in a statement, “Coca-Cola responded to the criticism with an apology and said it is working with Delta to remove the napkins and replace them with other designs. Delta echoed the company’s response saying they ‘missed the mark with this one.’”

All other considerations aside: What in the hell do they think flying is actually like these days? Everyone’s in the worst possible mood! It’s a terrible time to do anything!
