These teenagers watching Nirvana videos for the first time might give you pangs of aging-related woes, but don’t worry. All the laughing you do will help you forget that most of these kids weren’t even born when Nirvana was huge.

Some of their answers are predictably Kids-Say-The-Darndest-Things kind of funny. Like one girl, who when asked what someone who is a Nirvana fan is typically like, responds “they don’t wash their hair.” A lot of teenagers know Nirvana thanks to Dave Grohl and the Foo Fighters, which is why we get one boy who cracks up at the sight of a 90s-coiffed Grohl. (“Dave Grohl Has a Ponytail” is a perfect summation of 90s fashion, IMHO.) A lot of them seem to recognize how tragic the loss of Cobain was. “It’s sad that he’s not here with us,” says one young fan. So true.

Still, it packs a punch to realize it’s been more than 1,000 years 20 years since “Smells Like Teen Spirit” came out. Mick Jagger said it best: “What a drag it is getting old.” Although part of me relishes knowing that a lot of teens who are laughing now someday will have to watch their kids try and sit through a Justin Bieber video without falling over laughing and wonder what the hell we were all smoking back in 2014. Ahh, the circle of life via pop culture.
