Christina Hendricks' Body Is Endlessly Fascinating, Isn't It?

Latest

“Women hit on me. My husband thinks it’s so odd that so many women hit on me,” Christina Hendricks says in the November issue of Bazaar.

The profile in the magazine also contains a cute story about how Hendricks shared her hair dye with Karen Elson — who used it and ended up on Italian Vogue — but mostly, the piece seems to be about the famous curves. Men love them, women love them, gay men love them. “They say to me, ‘Well, I’m not straight, but if I was…’ I think it’s so flattering.”

But wait! There’s more!

“When the attention started to be about my figure, I was surprised, because it wasn’t something I was focused on,” she says. “And then it became very positive, and people were saying very nice things.”

In fact: A fan approached Hendricks during Mad Men‘s first season and said: “Excuse me, I just want to tell you that I watch your show, and you make me feel better about myself. I am a curvy woman, and you’ve made me feel sexy and beautiful.” Hendricks admits: “I got teary eyed.”

Hendricks also tells the mag:

“My mother never said to lose weight… Diets were never a big deal. My mom was always beautiful and voluptuous and curvy, and I always thought she was gorgeous.”

It is absolutely great that Hendricks has become a posterchild for curves, shaking up Hollywood’s steady stream of skinny blondes. But it’s rather disappointing that in interviews, it’s almost all we get to read about. She’s obviously a talented actress; she studied dance and loves fashion — surely she has other stories to tell! But at least she has a good attitude about it: As she told that fan who came up to her: “I’m just trying to be a good actress and trying to tell a story, but if this is the sidebar, all this positivity, then that is awesome.”
