Celebrities Solemnly Demand a Plan to End Gun Violence

In case you missed it: Photographed very simply against a gray background, Beyoncé, Jon Hamm, Jennifer Aniston, Will Ferrell, Peter Dinklage, Jeremy Renner, Paul Rudd, Michelle Williams, Rashida Jones, Cameron Diaz and many, many more star in this PSA for Demand A Plan, the campaign to end gun violence. The statement at the official campaign website reads:

Our efforts cannot bring back the 20 innocent children murdered in Newtown, CT — or the 34 people murdered with guns every day in America. But we can prevent future tragedies by passing common sense legislation that will:

Require a criminal background check for every gun sold in America
Ban assault weapons and high-capacity magazines
Make gun trafficking a federal crime, including real penalties for "straw purchasers"
Demand that your members of Congress and the president support these legislative priorities.

The site also has an interactive map so that you can see how your state stacks up in terms of background checks.

It is mildly ironic considering that these stars have killed about 100 people on screen between them.

Not to diminish their excellent social work, but it is uncomfortable to see people who profit off a culture that glorifies violence while doing an anti-violence PSA at the same time.
