The Vh1 Hip-Hop Honors tribute, which celebrates legends in hip-hop, is back after a six-year hiatus and will dedicate its next show to major female rap influences, in a smart yet belated decision.
In previous years, the show has honored artists like 2Pac, LL Cool J and Salt-N-Pepa (this tribute remains a major highlight for me) with epic performances of their biggest works. Billboard reports:
In a statement released to The Associated Press on Monday (May 23), the network announced the show would air live from New York City on July 11. While no honorees were announced, VH1 said it would focus exclusively on female “trailblazers and trend-setters” in the male-dominated field.
Obvious suggestions: Missy Elliott, Lil Kim, Trina.
