A California Highway Patrol officer has confessed to sending himself personal and nude photos from the phones of women he has arrested for DUI and sharing the photos with colleagues in what he refers to as a "game."

Officer Sean Harrington has been assigned to administrative duties while being investigated for stealing nude photos of various women he has arrested for DUI and sending them with fellow officers Robert Hazelwood and Dion Simmons. He claims that he has obtained and sent such photos at least six times in the last several years—he has worked for CHP for the last five years—but "learned to do it while working in Los Angeles."

According to court documents last month, a 23-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving—she had a blood alcohol content of .29 (the legal limit is .08). She discovered that nude photos of herself had been sent from her phone to an unknown number. AP reports:

The affidavit says Harrington also sent Hazelwood photos of a 19-year-old woman arrested following a suspected drunken driving crash in Livermore on Aug. 7. The photos show her wearing a bikini, and Hazelwood responded in a text asking if there were any nude photos, court papers say.

Harrington sent those photos next to Simmons, who replied favorably, saying "Nice," according to the affidavit, and Harrington asked his colleague to return the favor, "down the road buddy."

This is absolutely disgusting. The women may have made the stupid decision to drive drunk, but it is beyond inappropriate and and absolutely deplorable of the officers to take advantage of people who are in such a vulnerable situation. Contra Costa County prosecutors have yet to announce if they will file criminal charges, but I sure as hell hope they do.
