Bill Maher: "Usually Girls Are Haters"

"I'm guessing you have more male friends than female," Bill Maher says to Cameron Diaz, apropos of nothing, during last Friday's Real Time with Bill Maher. Causing Cameron to assert that she's not gay.

Obviously taken aback by Bill Maher's assumption that attractive women can't have friends (all the backbiting and cat-fighting, obvs) Cameron Diaz declares that, in fact, she has friends of both sexes. "I'm a girl's girl...and a guy's girl," she says, adding that she loves women, she loves men, "but not in that way." Cause, you know, it's important to make that clear. Actually, with Bill Maher, sadly, we can see how she might feel that way.

Oh, Bill.

He can be quite bright, and like Stewart, was one of the very few voices during the horrible Bush years to actually point out the hypocrisy, insanity, and badness routinely. He doesn't claim to be the smartest person ever, but he does inform himself, and does has different viewpoints up and able to make their case.

However, when it comes to women, he just utterly fails. He believe and perpetuates some the worst and most tired gender stereotypes, and his stance on marriage is just ridiculous. He seems to only hang out with women who confirm his sexism, and then lectures everyone else like we just don't "get" it. It's a huge character flaw.

That said, considering what passes for public political discourse in this country is handled by a mock news show, an ironic faux-conservative pundit, and him...I'll take what I can get.
