Bill Gates Says He Had to Explain to Donald Trump That HIV and HPV Are Different

Politics

There is no difference between Donald Trump and ignorance incarnate.

On Thursday night, MSNBC’s Chris Hayes shared a clip his team dug up of Microsoft founder Bill Gates telling his foundation’s staff that President Donald Trump doesn’t know if HPV and HIV are the same thing, or, perhaps, not. In the footage, Gates recalls that Trump asked him about the difference between the two viruses on two separate occasions, in December 2016 and March 2017, respectively.

“Both times he wanted to know if there was a difference between HPV and HIV,” Gates said. “So I was able to explain that those are rarely confused with each other.” The opportunity of a lifetime! I’m sure Trump forgot both conversations instantly. But why is the President so curious about this hm?

Gates also said that on both occasions Trump asked Gates whether vaccines are bad. “In both of those two meetings, he asked me if vaccines weren’t a bad thing, because he was considering a commission to look into the ill effect of vaccines. And I said, ‘no, that’s a dead end. That would be a bad thing, don’t do that.’”

But Trump was, allegedly, very knowledgeable on at least one subject: the appearance of Gates’ daughter, Jennifer Gates. “When I first talked to him,” said Bill Gates of Trump, “it was actually kind of scary how much he knew about my daughter’s appearance.”
