You have a year to prepare yourself (and your wallet) but there's huge news in the world of leggings today: Beyoncé and Topshop are launching an activewear company.
As British Vogue points out, Beyoncé and Sir Philip Green (the man who owns the company that owns Topshop) announced Monday that they were starting a company called Parkwood TopShop Athletic Ltd., which will start produce clothes as part of "a global athletic street-wear brand launching in Fall 2015." (Beyoncé's company Parkwood Entertainment was founded in 2008 when she decided to manage herself.) A press release reads:
The brand will encompass clothing, footwear and accessories across dance, fitness and sports categories ensuring a dynamic fusion of fashion with the highest levels of technical performance. The global distribution platform will include TOPSHOP stores and topshop.com, with many existing and new partnerships also to be explored.
According to Green, the company has "been looking at this category as fashion inspired fitness develops, and know that this is right in our customers' heartland."He went on to say that Beyoncé is the perfect person for this project because she "spends many hours of her life dancing, rehearsing and training."
Then, the Queen herself spoke:
"I could not think of a better partner as I continue to grow the Parkwood business. I have always loved TopShop for their fashion credentials and forward thinking. Working with their development team to create and produce a technical and fashion led collection is exciting and I'm looking forward to participating in all aspects of this partnership."
